Tonguespeak (or speaking in tongues) references glossolalia, a mysterious form of communication with the spiritual world. This type of direct divine communication is considered a spiritual gift by many, and may emerge regardless of religious or philosophical orientation. Speaking in tongues is often associated with the charismatic Christian and Pentecostal religions; however, Dr. Zemel was not raised in this environment. Her tonguespeak emerged as inherent from within (around age 3-4), rather than being learned or modeled. She worked with the mystical dialect as an adult within quiet and concentrated meditative states, where she slowly learned to interpret the channeled messages from beyond.
